Brewers Split Weekend Series in Woodslee
Entering their weekend series against Woodslee, the Maple City Brewers were undefeated on the season, however, the team would finally add a notch to their loss column after splitting their games in Woodslee. Originally scheduled to be played in Chatham, both games were moved to Woodslee due to field conditions. Maple City won the opening game 7-4, but dropped game two 9-7.
In the first game of the afternoon, Ryan Catrysse went 2-3 at the plate, with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Catcher Mike Verfaillie and first baseman Alan Oldershaw also had strong games at the plate both going 2-3. Dave Smith was the winning pitcher in game one.
Ken Laprise hit a second inning grand slam for the Maple City Brewers.
During game two of the afternoon, the Brewers traded leads with Woodslee in the first two innings, but couldn’t maintain an offensive charge later in the game, eventually losing their first game of the season 9-7. Joey Hewak went 4-4 in the game including three singles and a home run.
Trying to mount a late comeback in the game, the Brewers luck ran dry at the plate going 3 up, 3 down in the 7th and final inning.
