When it comes to the game of golf don’t ignore what the Municipality of Chatham-Kent area has to offer. This area of Southwestern Ontario is about an hour from London, Ontario and the U.S.A. border. May 1 is when the season typically begins. When Mother Nature indicates it is time to tee-up in the Chatham-Kent area, we are lucky enough to have a wide variety of courses to choose from.

The Talbot Trail Golf Club is the most southern of the county’s courses. It is a Nine-hole, Par 36 course that lies approximately two kilometres east of Wheatley. Talbot Trail is a well-established course that allows even the most experienced golfer, to be challenged by its hilly terrain.

Everyone always feels welcome at Deer Run Golf Course located on Bloomfield Rd. & Highway 3. With three nines and various tee deck options, they are able to cater to players of all abilities. Deer Run prides itself on great play and a tradition of superior service.  Each of the 27 holes provides visitors with exciting challenges. The greens are large, and the island green is a test for the very best. Keep an eye out for the great specials Deer Run offers during the season.

Blenheim Golf Club is located less than five kilometres south-east of Blenheim on Highway 3. This course has been the host to various Ontario championship golf tournaments. Water comes into play on 13 of the 18 holes. When taking that approach shot to Blenheim’s greens, ensure you position the ball at the most advantageous point for an approach putt.

The Ridgetown Golf & Curling Club is one kilometre south of Ridgetown.  Upon arrival you will find it warm and welcoming. The majestic natural setting with stately trees and rolling fairways provide an enjoyable golf experience for the novice golfer to the aspiring professional. Ridgetown offers specials on various days throughout the week.

The Chatham Golf & Fun Centre in Chatham is where you will find the nine-hole, approximately 2300 metre course, Rolyn Golf Trails. It is located on Charing Cross Road on the outskirts of Chatham. In 2010 the course layout was updated to improve the flow of golfers. A real bonus is the heated driving range which allows you to get in the swing of things before the season starts. The Golf & Fun Centre also has batting cages and mini-putt.

The Links of Kent is located on Indian Creek Road West in Chatham-Kent. There have been several changes over the past few years in the number of holes available to play. Whether you play 9 or 18 holes, this course’s Par 3’s will test your accuracy and mental game. Links of Kent provides a great round for both the beginner and the low handicapped golfer.

Maple City Country Club is Chatham-Kent’s private golf club. It is located roughly 11 kilometres east of Chatham. Maple City is the complete golf experience. Its rolling hills, soft contours and natural vegetation are pleasantly woven into a playable championship layout.  Maple City provides a variety of interesting holes to delight members and visitors alike. This course was the host of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship in 1999.

Country View Golf Course is located between Chatham and Wallaceburg on Highway 40. This 27-hole course was developed in 1980 and has 500 members.  Ongoing improvements over the past several years have added to the playability of the course. The Hooker family, who have owned Country View for many years, take pride in ensuring that golfers of all levels have a wonderful day on the course.

Baldoon Golf Club is located outside of Wallaceburg and was built in 1930. At Baldoon the Par 4, 15th hole is known as the signature hole. This hole requires accuracy in your approach shot and a good read of the green. Baldoon has 300 welcoming members and courteous staff that make playing here a great option for a relaxing game of golf.

As an avid Chatham-Kent golfer I enjoy making the rounds to all these courses each season. I recommend you do the same. In 2011, take the time to experience all of the great golf play our area has to offer, it is definitely out there waiting for you.
