Henderson a Hit in Freshmen Season at Rochester College
Playing for the Rochester College Warriors, Chatham baseball player Brock Henderson, 20, is quickly making a name for himself this season in the USCAA. Splitting his season evenly between the JV and varsity teams at Rochester, Henderson has collected 13 hits, 4 RBI, 4 Stolen bases, and a batting average approaching .300.
A graduate of Chatham-Kent Secondary School, Henderson and his Warriors teammates will be headed to the National Championship tournament in Maine later this month, an event that will cap off what Henderson called an exciting freshmen season of college baseball,
“My first season of College baseball was exciting,” said Henderson. “It was a learning experience for me coming from Canada and playing US collegiate baseball. Overall, it has been a dream come true and I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
Henderson grew up playing minor baseball with the Chatham Diamonds before heading down the 401 to compete with the Tecumseh Thunder AAA last summer, a move which enabled Henderson to secure his scholarship at Rochester College, a USCAA school located in Michigan.
Studying Secondary English Education, Henderson is chasing his dreams on and off the field, and beginning next season, Henderson has his sights set on bigger things as a member of the Warriors baseball team,
“Next season I plan on fighting for a starting 3rd base job. I believe that it’s something I can do if I work hard enough this summer. I will be working with Dave Corrente and playing my summer ball with the Maple City Brewers. I’m going to be hitting the weights hard this summer and trying to put a few more pounds on.”
Beyond next season, Brock Henderson said he wants to impress Major League scouts in hopes of again moving to the next level. If his recent performance, including a 2-3 night during his team’s 13-3 win over Alma College last weekend is any indication, Henderson will continue to be a hit at Rochester College, and will successfully meet every challenge the baseball world throws his way.
