Chatham’s Ryan Jones has locked up his new deal for the next two seasons re-signing with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers Sunday.

Jones who was ready to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 after turning down a contract offer from the Edmonton Oilers just prior to the trade deadline, and was likely to be a highly coveted free agent on the open market after scoring 18 goals last season, signed a two year contract with his former team.

Following the announcement of his new contact, Jones posted this on his Twitter account (@Jonesry28), “Thank you everyone for all the support.. Glad to be a part of Oiler Nation.”

Exact terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed by the Edmonton Oilers or the National Hockey League; however, it was expected Jones would collect in excess of $1.5 million after making $975,000 last year. Jones is a product of several local hockey organizations including the Chatham-Kent Cyclones ‘AAA’, Dresden Kings and Blenheim Blades Junior C teams, as well as the Chatham Maroons Junior B hockey team.
