Local Drivers Take Checkered Flag at South Buxton Opening Night

South Buxton RacewayThree experienced Chatham-Kent drivers captured victory’s on South Buxton Raceway’s opening night. After a week of postponed races due to rain, the green flag went up and South Buxton’s 40th Anniversary season finally got underway in grand fashion.

Jim Dale Jr captured the Schinkel’s Gourmet Meats UMP Modified race. Dale, a long time South Buxton veteran racing finished just ahead of Leamington’s Joel Dick to find his way to the winners circle on opening night.

In the Windride Transportation UMP Late Models event, Chatham’s Kirk Hooker started his final season of racing with a win at South Buxton finishing just ahead of Charing Cross’ Chris Ross. Chatham’s Jim Jones, Ridgetown’s Dale Glassford and Dover Centre’s Jeff Jardine crossed the finish line in 3rd, 4th, and 5th in this race.

The Dover Sanitation Sport Stocks feature saw another South Buxton Raceway long time competitor, Steve Shaw take the checkered flag. The Merlin resident’s win had him closing in on 300 career race wins. The top five in this event following Shaw were Chatham’s Tyler Lozon, Merlin’s Eren Vanderiviere, Essex’s Doris Lajeunesse, and Chatham’s Kent Morrison.

The 4th feature race of the evening, the Tirecraft Comp 4 event was postponed due to a crash that damaged the track’s safety fence.
