Maple City Brewers Shut Out Titans in Home Away From Home Opener

Maple City Brewers BaseballIn what was supposed to be their first home game at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham this season, the Maple City Brewers were forced to travel down the 401 to Woodslee to face the Windsor Titans in their first “home” game of the 2011 season. Their home away from home looked more like “home sweet home” as the Brewers shut out the Windsor Titans 6-0 for the win.

Dave Carey and Matt Knights both went 2-3 to lead the Maple City Brewers at the plate while Jason Shaw pitched a 1 hit, 2 walk gem.

The Brewers scored all of their runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. In the 3rd, Jason Shaw and Joel Smith started things off with singles. After Dave Smith advanced to first on a walk to load up the bases, Joey Hewak stepped to the plate and belted a grand slam out of the park to give his team a 4-0.

In the 4th inning, after Matt Knights was walked and Joel Smith his second single of the game, Windsor’s pitching began to come apart advancing both runners on a wild pitch, followed by a Dave Smith single which scored both Knights and Joel Smith.

Following the mid game scoring flurry, the Brewers turned to their strong pitching and defensive game to keep the Windsor Titans off the scoreboard for good.

Chatham is scheduled to play a double header this Sunday at Fergie Jenkins Field against Woodslee starting at 1pm.
