Maple City Brewers Unbeaten After Win in Amherstburg

The Maple City Brewers baseball team has started their season 3-0 this season after defeating Riverside, and Amherstburg twice, including a 12-2 win Wednesday night in Amherstburg.

Wednesday, the Brewers scored 12 runs on 6 hits. Joey Hewak led the club with two hits, but it was Amherstburg’s defensive struggles, including 4 errors, and numberous walks, that allowed the Maple City Brewers to score the bulk of their runs. Matt Rylett pitched 4 solid innings in the game striking out 3 batters.

Here is an inning by inning summary of the game:

1st inning – Nothing.

2nd inning – Brandyn Broadwood HBP, Denny Toth HBP but is out at 2nd, Greg Sinclair FC and brings in Broadwood, but is stranded.

3rd inning – Jarrod Lucier on by error but is out at 2nd, Joel Smith FC but is stranded.

4th inning – Ryan Cattrysse walks, gets to 3rd on a PB, Joey Hewak singles, Cattrysse comes in on Greg Sinclair’s at bat, Mike Verfaille on by error and Broadwood comes in – Hewak and Verfaille are stranded.

5th inning – Jarrod Lucier singles and steals 3rd, Joel Smith singles, Matt Knights FC,  Brandyn Broadwood singles and brings in Lucier, Joey Hewak walks and brings in Smith, Denny Toth walks,Knights comes in on a PB, Greg Sinclair singles and steals 2nd and brings in Broadwood and Hewak, Toth and Sinclair are stranded.

6th inning – Jarrod Lucier walks and gets to 3rd on a WP, Joel Smith walks, Ryan Cattrysse on by error, Brock Henderson on by error and brings in Lucier and Smith, Joey Hewak singles and brings in Cattrysse but is out at 2nd, Denny Toth FC and brings in Henderson, Greg Sinclair walks – Toth and Sinclair are stranded.

In their first game of the season, Maple City defeated the Amherstrbug Seniors 8-6, followed by a 5-3 win over Riverside.

The Maple City Brewers travel to Wyoming Friday, May 13, followed by Sarnia on Sunday, May 15.
