Tartans and Lancers Punch Tickets to Kent Junior Football Final
On a hot Monday, the Wallaceburg Tartans and UCC Lancers punched their tickets through to the Kent Junior Football final this Saturday.
In Wallaceburg, the WDSS Tartans continued to show they are the class of the league defeating the John McGregor Panthers 35-6. The Tartans showed signs of pure athleticism and utilized a balanced running and passing attack to take advantage of the Panthers’ defence.
Jonah Pataki continued his outstanding season scoring another 4 touchdowns in today’s game, while carrying for 156 yards. Kevin Kellett had the other Wallaceburg touchdown off a pass from quarterback Brayden Fischer. Kellett also kicked 5 extra points and had 2 interceptions. Kameron Rylett-Ward had the lone John McGregor touchdown.
UCC defeated the Blenheim Bobcats 38-0 in the other semi-final.
Anthony Cunha had 2 touchdowns for the UCC Lancers, while Sam Tomen, Jazz Miguel-White, and Jake Martin also had TDs. Quarterback Luke Allin had a rouge for the Lancers and Jake Myers kicked a field goal and 4 extra points.
In a post game radio interview, Wallaceburg Head Coach Rob McGlauglin had this to say about what his team will need to do in their matchup with the UCC Lancers,
“All year we’ve moved the ball offensively, we need to continue to do that, hopefully our defence can stand up and make a takeaway. We can’t make mistakes.”
Wallaceburg is 7-0 on the season thus far including a win over the Lancers, a 28-24 thriller in early May. Game time for the Kent final is 1pm Saturday in Wallaceburg.
