U-15 Chatham Attack Open London League Season With Win in Sarnia
The U-15 Chatham Attack opened their London League L5 season at home on Friday night against the Sarnia Fury capturing a 2-1 win.
Chatham would enter the game short 5 regulars who were missing due to school and sports commitments. The Attack called up reinforcements from the U-14 Attack who would step in and not miss a beat.
Chatham came out strong in the 1st half and enjoyed the majority of the possession and play in the Sarnia end. However, in par with last year’s side, they found it difficult to fill the back of the net.
Chatham came out a little flat in the 2nd half and they paid the price as poor coverage in their own end resulted in a Fury goal. With 15 minutes remaining in the half and down by a goal, Chatham soon moved up Captain Christian Bechard to striker from his sweeper spot and it didn’t take long for the gamble to pay off. Bechard buried a scorcher off the Sarnia goalie’s outstretched hands into the twine from 18 yards out to tie the game at the 82nd minute mark of the game.
Only minutes later, some nifty play by Sanaam Memon in front of the Sarnia box, resulted in a through ball to Brady Shepherd who pushed the ball past the Sarnia goalie and was then taken down by the keeper in the box. Drew McFeggan calmly placed the penalty shot out of the keeper’s reach giving Chatham a 2 – 1 lead at the 87th minute mark of the game. Chatham would run out the clock and post their 1st win of the season, a feat they didn’t accomplish last year until midseason.
Chatham keeper Josh Graham kept Sarnia off the board early and kept Chatham within striking distance by only allowing 1 goal to the offensive minded Fury.
Chatham is back in action Wednesday night at home against North London.
