Bantam CK Cougars Lose Home Opener to Sarnia Sturgeon
The Bantam Chatham-Kent Cougars suffered their worst loss of the season in their home opener, falling to a very tough Sarnia Sturgeon team 34-14. The small in number Sturgeons were huge in heart, dominating both sides of the ball for almost the entire game.
Offensively, Jermaine Caldwell had 8 carries for 30 yards, Ethan Smith had 5 for 26 yards with one TD, Justin Stevens had 9 for 24 yards and Rob Wright had 2 for 10 yards. Kelton Evans was 5 of 11 for 102 yards with 1 passing TD. Nolan Ball was 2 of 3 for 8 yards. Jake Anderson caught 3 balls for 105 yards, one a 47 yard touchdown, while Justin Stevens caught 2 for 11 yards and Mo Ibari caught 2 for 18 yards. Owen Dorssers converted the two touchdowns.
Defensively, Cole Gregg had an interception late to lead to the Chatham-Kent Cougars 2nd TD. Tanner Shuian, Zach Kaniecki and Mark Kellet were played an excellent game as always in this one, but lack of a supporting cast cost the Cougars dearly, digging themselves a hole early, from which they were unable to recover.
