Chatham Golfer Qualifies for Euro Junior Golf Cup
Chatham golfer Kyle Wicks shot the round of his life Sunday in Paris, Ontario, advancing through the Euro Junior Golf Cup Qualifier to the main event July 27 through July 29 in Fife, Scotland.
Wicks will now compete as a member of Team Canada after winning the Boys 15-19 division qualifier. Wicks finished one shot ahead of the second place finisher after draining three birdies and an eagle on No. 15 to shoot a 2-under-par 70 in his final round.
Particularly, Wicks stormed through the back 9 shooting 3 under par on the final six holes to end the event plus 4 overall.
“I played really well today,” said Wicks in a Canadian Junior Golf Association News Release. “A couple of bad shots held me back in round one, but I bounced back today. My short game was clutch when I needed it to be and I hit a lot of fairways.”
Wicks, a John McGregor Secondary School student, is a former Kent Golf Champion and was a member of the 1st place Ontario Junior Golf Championship team in 2010, while finishing 3rd at the Canadian Junior Golf Association Nationals in 2010.
