Heading into Saturday’s Tirecraft 4 feature, Blenheim’s Shawn Jones held the overall standings lead in the division; however, with the 3rd annual Cory Chives Memorial Race on the schedule, Jones was looking at things one race at a time. For the first time Saturday, Shawn Jones captured the checkered flag winning the race.

Cory Chives, Jones’ lifelong best friend, passed away June 8, 2009 following a long battle with cancer and since then, South Buxton Raceway has held a memorial race for Chives near the anniversary weekend of his death. Jones made a dramatic pass with only a few laps to go, moments before the race ended under caution due to rain, sending Jones to the emotional win, and extending his overall points lead in the Tirecraft Comp 4 standings.

Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano finished second in the Comp 4s followed by Randy McKinlay (Chatham), Jordan Arnel (Chatham), and Rob Quick (Cottam).

In the Dover Sanitation Sport Stocks race, Chatham’s Ken Morrison took the win, with Merlin’s Eren Vanderiviere taking third and Chatham’s Randy McKinlay sitting fifth. Ridgetown’s Dale Glassford took the Windride Transportation UMP Late Models race followed by four Chatham-Kent drivers in Chatham’s Brad Authier and Ken Hooker, Wallaceburg’s Mike Lewis, and Chatham’s Gregg Haskell.

Jim Dale Jr continued his strong season at South Buxton Raceway capturing the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modifieds. With the win, the Shrewsbury native regained the overall lead in the UMP Modifieds standings. Dale Jr was followed by Chatham’s Jeff Daniels and former feature leader Joel Dick of Leamington.
