Mallory Johnston Going For Gold With Team Canada
From her first international competition wearing the red and white for Team Canada, to a gold medal game, things have been good for Chatham’s Mallory Johnston in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Wednesday, Johnston and her Canadian teammates took on the USA in the semi-final at the World Street and Ball Hockey Championships winning 5-0. The win sends Canada to the World Ball Hockey gold medal game against the host nation, Slovakia.
Although Johnston didn’t hit the scoresheet in Canada’s semi-final win, she did notch 4 points in the first two games of the tournament.
In round robin play, Canada finished first overall with a perfect 2-0 record with an unbelievable goal differential of 28-0, while Slovakia finished a near second also finishing 2-0, but with a slightly lower goal differential of 22-0. Through the quarterfinals and semifinals, Canada still remains without a goal against. Slovakia narrowly defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 to advance to the gold medal game.
The gold medal game gets underway at 8:30pm at Ondrej Nepela Stadium in Bratislava.
