Mallory Johnston Representing Canada at World Ball Hockey Championships
Chatham’s Mallory Johnston is headed across the Ocean to represent her country at the World Ball Hockey Championships starting Sunday.
After completing a four year NCAA hockey career at Colgate, Johnston has been playing ice hockey in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League for the Burlington Barracudas, a team which features multiple Olympic athletes.
Johnston now however, will trade in her skates for running shoes at the World Ball Hockey Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, where she’ll play defence for Team Canada, who is looking to win their third straight gold medal. Ball hockey is not a foreign sports for Johnston, although she’s better known for her on-ice abilities, as she was named Ontario Ball Hockey Association female player of the year in 2002, and won multiple ball hockey titles while playing for the Chatham Coyotes.
Johnston who was spotted by Team Canada’s head coach at the Canadian National Ball Hockey Championships will be making her first appearance wearing Team Canada’s red and white when the tournament gets underway Sunday.
Canada plays their first game Sunday at 1:30pm against Greece, followed by Monday against Austria at 6:30pm.
