Red Devils Win Make or Break Game in Owen Sound
It was make or break for the Wallaceburg Red Devils as they travelled to play the Owen Sound Proteam Saturday night. In front of a large Wallaceburg crowd due to the fact that several Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse teams were in Owen Sound for a tournament, the Red Devils pulled of a come from behind 12-11 win.
“We played a full 60 minutes and didn’t let up,” Wallaceburg Head Coach Justin Durston told CKSN. “The boys knew we needed the win to secure a playoff spot and they responded.”
Trailing 11-10 in the third period, two Wallaceburg veterans stepped up and lifted their team to the win, as Clint Lamarsh and Reid Miller both scored late goals to propel the Red Devils to the win. Lamarsh has 2 goals and 2 assists in the game while Miller had a goal and 2 assists.
Jordan Durston was the real star of the game for Wallaceburg however scoring half of his team’s goals with an incredible 6 goal effort in the win.
Jordan Dolce, Dillon Lapointe, and Rob Pollock had the other Wallaceburg Red Devils goals in the win, one in which the team had to win to maintain their hopes for a post season birth. Entering the game it was clear this game, the last in the Red Devils’ regular season, was make or break, as a loss would have instantly eliminated the team from the playoffs.
Now Wallaceburg must wait and see whether they will finish 8th and play first place Six Nations, or whether they’ll finish 7th and play either Elora or Orangeville. Their positioning depends on multiple games to be played tonight and tomorrow.
For Wallaceburg’s coach Justin Durston, he is now focused squarely on his team improving before the playoffs and preparing to face their next opponent, “We still have minor mistakes to clean up, but for the past 6 games we have been dealing with the injury bug. Getting everyone back and healthy before next weekend is crucial. I need to have a full squad in order to compete with either Six Nations, Elora or Orangeville. If we have a full squad, a series against any of those teams will be intense. We have guys on our team that don’t like to lose, hopefully playoff lacrosse will bring the best out in them.”
