Van Herk Wins Multiple Gold at WOSA Long Course Championships
Qualifying swimmers from the Blenheim Blast Swim Team travelled to Brock University in St. Catherines last weekend (June 10-12, 2011) to participate in the W.O.S.A. Long Course Regional Championships.
Shania Van Herk topped the podium with three Gold medals swimming to first place performances in the Girls 14 year old 100m (1:11.03) and 200m (2:34.34) Backstroke events, and 100 m (1:02.97 ) Freestyle. She followed up with a silver medal performance in the 200m (2:18.17) Freestyle, and a fourth place finish in the 200 IM (2:40.71) . Shania qualified to travel to the Canadian Age Group Championships in Montreal July 27- August 1 with her time of 1:11.03 in the 100m backstroke.
Riley Johnson secured the silver medal in the Girls 14 year old 400 m IM (5:49.33) , and had four top ten finishes with a sixth place in the 100m Fly, seventh place in in the 50m Free , eighth place in the 100m Backstroke and ninth place in the 200m Back stroke.
Rain Pfaff swam to four top ten performances finishing fourth in the Girls 12 year old 200 m Backstroke (2:52.76) , sixth place in the 100m Backstroke, seventh place in the 200 IM and ninth place in the 100 m Fly. River Pfaff had three top ten finishes with a fifth place finish in the 14 Year Old Boys 200m Breast , sixth place in the 100m Breast and a ninth place finish in the 400m IM. Grace Hansen just missed the podium with a fourth place finish in the Girls 10 year old 100m Fly. Mackenzie Rajki (14) and Brandelyn Kelly (15) also qualified and swam their first meet as Blenheim Blast team members at the Long Course Championship.
The swim team will travel to meets this weekend in preparation for the Long Course Junior Provincial Championships in Etobicoke June 30 – July 3, 2011.
