Michael Woods and Dylan McTavish were the top finishers from Chatham-Kent at the OFSAA tennis tournament this week in Toronto medaling with a 4th place finish in the Boys Doubles division. The antique bronze medal for the doubles team from John McGregor Secondary School, is the best ever finish by tennis players from Kent County. The duo lost the bronze medal game 8-2 to a doubles team from TA Blakelock.

Nearing that accomplishment Grecia and Graciela Alaniz from Chatham-Kent Secondary School had the next highest finish, placing 5th in the girls doubles division. After starting the OFSAA tournament with a pair of wins, the Golden Hawks pair was eliminated by the eventual bronze medal winners from AB Lucas. The finish is the best ever result for tennis players from CKSS.

The best finish by Kent County athletes prior to OFSAA 2011 was a fifth place tie. The Alaniz sisters and Brett Alexander (JMSS, fifth place tie in 2009) were the previous best.

Overall, the 7 athletes from Chatham-Kent played 25 matches and finished with a 15-10 win/loss record which is Kent’s best showing ever.

The individual results for each participant are as follows:

Alex Goldoni, boys’ singles, one win, two losses
Alaysha Pereira, girls’ singles, two wins, two losses
Brandon Dube, boys’ singles, three wins, two losses
Grecia and Graciela Alaniz, girls’ doubles, four wins, two losses
Dylan McTavish and Michael Woods, boys’ doubles, five wins, two losses
