Chatham Coyotes Lose in Womens Eastern Canadian Ball Hockey Final
The Chatham Coyotes were one win away from a gold medal at the Eastern Canadian Ball Hockey Championships in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In the end, the talented Chatham team came up one goal short losing 3-2 to Newfoundland Home Hardware in the gold medal game.
In the opening game of the tournament Friday, the Coyotes shutout the Nova Scotia Vipers 1-0. Wallaceburg’s Jacey Taylor had the shutout in net, while Christina Marchand scored the lone goal for Chatham. Taylor made 15 saves in the game. In the second round robin game Friday, the Coyotes tied the Saint John Storm 3-3. Chatham goals were scored by Cassandra Conell, Emily Grand, and Laura Gillett.
Facing the PEI Selects in their first game Saturday, the Chatham Coyotes again found themselves tied at the end of the game, this time with a 1-1 score. Erica Gold had the lone Chatham goal while Taylor made 16 saves. The Coyotoes then lost their final preliminary game 1-0 to the Peterborough All-Stars.
The semi-finals Sunday morning saw the Coyotes in a rematch against the PEI Selects, this time however, Chatham was able to edge the Selects 2-1.
Chatham was facing Newfoundland Home Hardward in the final, however the couldn’t pull off another win losing 3-2 for a silver medal finish. Statistics from the final were not immediately available.
