Former Toronto Blue Jays prospect David Corrente will join the Maple City Brewers baseball team, debuting tonight against the Windsor Titans at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham.

The 27-year-old Chatham-Kent native was drafted in the 14th round of the MLB draft in 2001. After spending several seasons moving between single, double, and triple A baseball in the United States and Canada, Corrente’s career highlight came in 2008 when he was selected to play for Team Canada at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Maple City currently sits in contention for both the Essex County Senior League and Western Counties League, but have only one catcher on their roster, which is why the addition of Corrente, who is coming out of retirement, will be of value to the team.

Maple City plays Windsor tonight at 7pm in Chatham, followed by a doubleheader Saturday against the Forest Dragons, and a game Sunday against the Port Lambton Pirates.
