Enache Wins Gold at Provincial Legion Track and Field Meet
Chatham-Kent Secondary School student Roland Enache took home gold at the Royal Canadian Legion’s Track and Field meet Friday in Chatham.
The local student, who moved to Chatham from Romania only a few years ago, jumped 5.72 metres to win gold in long jump. Enache was both the Kent and SWOSSAA champion in long jump during the high school season before finishing 4th at OFSAA in the same event.
Roughly 400 athletes are in town Friday and Saturday to take part in the annual Legion Meet, which is taking place this year at the Chatham-Kent Athletic Complex behind Chatham-Kent Secondary School.
Other local competitors in the Legio meet include Maddie Green, who finished 6th Friday in girls high jump, as well as Rachel Hoekstra who will compete in the 2,000 metre race, and Ryan McNamara, who will take part in the steeplechase.
The meet continues Saturday with the opening ceremonies at 8:45am.
