Goldini, Herfst Grab Wins on Little Caesars Tennis Tour
The Little Caesars Tennis Tour held it’s inaugural event in Chatham Saturday July 16. The tennis tour will also involve stops in Kingsville, Sarnia and London. In the first tournament stop, two Chatham residents, Alexander Goldini and Ashley Herfst grabbed wins in their divisions.
The successful event saw 26 junior tennis playes vying for points. The player with the most points at the end of the tour wins the season championship.
Results: U-14 girls – Three girls competed in a round-robin format. Ashley Herfst of Chatham went undefeated (2-0), Renee DuChene of Belle River was second with a 1-1 record. Kadianne Webb of Chatham was third at 0-2.
U-18 Girls – Four girls competed in a round-robin format. Rachael Muma of St. Thomas was the winner with a 3-0 record. Graciela Alaniz of Chatham was second (2-1), Rachelle DuChene of Belle River was third (1-2) and Laura Polowick fourth (0-3).
U-14 Boys – Vlad Pac of London defeated Aiden Poole of Chatham, 8-5, in the championship game. Mihai Branzan of Chatham, finished third by virtue of his 8-3 win against Alex Gherghel, also of Chatham. Fifth place went to Stacey Milne of London who defeated Justin McNamara of Chatham
U-18 Boys – Alexander Goldoni defeated Brandon Dube 8-5 in an all Chatham final, to win the title. DJ Fenerty of London defeated Mathew Lorenzen also of London 8-3 to finish third. Connor Gould of Sarnia finished fifth by virtue of his 8-0 victory over Kevin Grootenboer of Chatham. Josh Dube of Chatham finished fifth with a 8-1 win over Marcel Beauchamp of Sarnia.
Goldini was one of seven Chatham-Kent tennis players to advance to the OFSAA tennis finals this past high school season.
