Nightmare Ending, Dream Beginning for Wallaceburg Lacrosse
After months of fundraising and community support, and in a week that Wallaceburg Lacrosse is gearing up for what could be a high moment for the organization as they battle for a $25,000 award in TSN’s Kraft Celebration Tour, at long last a nightmare seems to be drawing to a close for the organization.
On Thursday, a 40-year old Wallaceburg man pleaded guilty to defrauding the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse organization of nearly $70,000. Jeffery Fields of Wallaceburg, who served as Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse’s treasurer for the better part of a year, pleaded guilty to defrauding the organization of $69,265.73.
Fields, who fully admitted his actions told the courts and the organization he had spent roughly $1000 per week to support his drug habits, and had gambled away much of the money, emptying the four Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse bank accounts.
Sentencing for this case is scheduled to take place on August 25.
For months the Wallaceburg Lacrosse organization has been fundraising and rebuilding, and now, Wallaceburg as a community, and the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association are looking to come together yet again in what could be a dream new beginning in the July 12 head to head voting against Trenton to capture a position on the Kraft Celebration Tour. Winner of this vote which takes place online at www.kraftcelebrationtour.ca from 12 noon July 12 until 12 noon July 13, will win $25,000 for a community improvement and a live TSN SportsCentre broadcast.
