VanDamme Leads Team Ontario to National Box Lacrosse Gold
Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse goalie Emily Vandamme had another stellar game as she turned away 23 of 26 shots to help lead Team Ontario to a 4-3 victory over Team BC.
Emily once again showed that she could handle the high pressure situations as Team Ontario’s defense seemed to lack, causing Emily to make a few big, key saves in the first period. After the 1st period Team Ontario trailed 2-1.
In the 2nd period Team Ontario seemed to settle in, scoring the lone goal of the period. Although there was only one goal scored, the action was intense as both goalies made some big saves for their respective teams.
The 3rd period was no different as both teams picked up the pace, and did whatever they could to secure the win. Team Ontario got on the board first as they capitalized on a power play, to go up 3-2. Later in the period with Team Ontario up 4-3 with only a couple minutes left, Team BC pulled their goalie to give them a 6 on 5 advantage. Team Ontario played strong team defense however and didn’t allow Team BC any scoring opportunities in the dying seconds of the game.
With that, the buzzer went and the party started for these girls who played their hearts out for Team Ontario. VanDamme was named game star for the final.
Congratulations Emily and Team Ontario on an excellent tournament.
