Wallaceburg Griffins Novice 1 Wrap Up Unforgettable Season
An outstanding regular season came to a close Monday for the Wallaceburg Griffins Novice 1 club with a win 12-7 win over Windsor. The team, who is Wallaceburg’s first ‘A’ rated lacrosse team in over 20 years, finished the season with an 18-1-1 record in Zone 7 play. The team also had an astonishing 260 goals for, and only 59 against.
Saturday in Guelph the Novices defeated Brampton 14-12, who is the top rated B team in Ontario, and lost 8-2 to Guelph. Wallaceburg was leading Guelph 2-1 into the mid-point of the game before the wheels fell off. Zone finals are Saturday in Windsor.
Provincials for the Griffins are August 5, 6, and 7. In total, the Novice 1 Wallaceburg Griffins will enter Provincials with a 26-8-2 record overall on the year socring 369 goals for and 157 goals against.
Tanner Cole hit the 70 goal plateau last night in the team’s final game against Windsor, while Riley Roe scored his 59th and Cole MacKinnon finished with 50. With 3 games Saturday at the Zone 7 Finals and Provincials approaching the Novice 1 team has the chance for two other players, Evan Dumais (41 goals) and Tyler Davis (40 goals) to hit the 50 goal mark this season. Hunter Santsche (82 points) has a shot at 100 points, while Tanner Cole will eclipse that mark.
