Chatham Maroons Honour Top Players From 2010-2011
The Chatham Maroons announced their annual award this past weekend. Patrick Watling, the Chatham Maroons leading scorer from last season led the way on award night bringing home three major honours.
Watling was named the Maroons’ regular season MVP, and took home the Brian Wiseman Award as the team’s leading scorer. In addition to these honours, Watling won the Ron Corristine Award for his excellence in Secondary School Academics. Watling, who hails from Sault Ste. Marie, scored 25 goals and 50 assists for the Maroons in 49 games last season, and was named a Western Conference first team all-star.
Last year’s captain Collin Cloutier also grabbed three major awards. Cloutier was named the team’s best defenseman, and also received the Roy Buhlman Award as the team’s MVP senior player, and was awarded the Maroons’ Leadership, Ability & Sportsmanship award.
In the teams playoff series against the Strathroy Rockets last season, veteran Sean Myers stepped up leading the team with 6 goals and 2 assists in 6 games, and was named playoff MVP. Alex Morgan, a prospect for the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, was award Rookie of the Year after finishing the season with 22 goals as a 16-year-old.
In other awards, Ian Jacobs was named Most Improved Player, Blake Blondeel was honoured for Desire & Determination, while Devon Roeszler was named the CMHA Outstanding Graduate. Evan Mascaro was honoured as the team’s top Post Secondary Academic player, and Troy Cox was give the George Aitken Award for Dedication to the Team.
The Maroons begin their main camp August 20 and 21 at Memorial Arena in Chatham with their first pre-season game coming August 26 against Leamington in Chatham.
