Chatham Golden Eagles Win Silver at Eastern Canadian Softball Championships

After finishing 3-0 in pool play, the Chatham Golden Eagles peewee softball team, were awarded a silver medal at the Eastern Canadian Softball Championships with an overall record of 4-1, with their only loss coming to the gold medal team Etoiles Rive-Sud.

No medal games were played due to conditions stemming from Tropical Storm Irene that flooded the diamonds, meaning the medals were awarded on records to that point in the tournament.

Madison Goodwin had the highest batting average of all 8 teams in the tournament, which was hosted in Quebec, after round robin play. Goodwin’s average was .667 as she batted 8 for 12.  The next highest average came from a PEI player at .556.

The Chatham Golden Eagles would also like to recognize the contributions of businesses, organizations, and individuals who helped them throughout the seasona and in travelling to Quebec. These include, T.W. Marsh Well Drilling and Croczech Manufacturing who paid for the team’s new uniforms this year, as well as the following sponsors for their trip to Quebec: Beselaere Construction, CK Hydro, Provincial Women’s Softball Association, Chatham Girls Minor Softball Association, Mark Woodall Physiotherapy, Moravian Corner Store, Tom Dixon, Jason Reaume, Jules and Mary VanRycheghem, Tom Maloney, and Ernie Roesch.

The team went 4-1 actually, beating Nova Scotia in a playoff game before the bad weather set in.
