Jeffrey Fields Sentenced in Fraud Case

After a year of uncertainty, closure has finally come through the courts for the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association, who were the victims of fraud, to the tune of nearly $70,000 by former treasurer Jeffrey Fields.

Fields, who told the courts he would “pay back every penny” was sentenced to repay $69,265.73  to Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse. Fields will begin making payments of $350 per month this year, after pleading guilty and being sentenced this week.

Fields was also placed on one year of house arrest follwed by a year’s probation.

In the wake of the fraud, the community of Wallaceburg rallied together to support Wallaceburg Lacrosse including a gala dinner which raised more than $20,000 for the organization, and numerous community sponsors stepping up to the plate to rebuild the organization.

Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse is also the beneficiary of a $25,000 award from the Kraft Celebration Tour for a new outdoor lacrosse facility.
