After CKSN originally reported HERE that the Women’s Nations Cup Final would be held Saturday in Chatham, rather than the original location in Oakville, it appears the Nations Cup will stay at Appleby College in Oakville. The move, which would have featured South Africa versus the USA for third, and Canada against England for the final, was later called off due to contractual obligations and some logistics.

On the official Women’s International Rugby in Chatham-Kent Facebook page, organizers posted that the event would be held in Chatham, but later posted this message after finding out the games could not be changed,

“Unfortunately, this deal fell through this afternoon because of some prior contractual obligations. But Rugby Canada was very enthusiastic about the support they received in Chatham-Kent, so hopefully there will be more events like last Friday’s coming our way. Thank you again to everyone for the tremendous support.”

Friday’s Nations Cup and TekSavvy Kent Cup games were a huge success in Chatham-Kent drawing 915 fans to the games, with players and officials giving rave reviews to fans and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Although the Nations Cup games will remain in Oakville this year, organizers are hoping for future International events to again come to Chatham-Kent after the success of this year’s games. As well, on August 13, the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex will still play host to three excellent rugby games as the Kent Havoc Senior Men, Senior Women, and Junior Girls all play in what is being touted as “Rugby Day in Chatham-Kent.”
