Team Canada was on the field this morning at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex preparing for their battle tonight against the USA in the TekSavvy Kent Cup. The international rugby competition, which is also serving as round robin meeting in the Nations Cup, will feature South Africa versus England at 5:00pm, followed by Canada against the USA at 7:00pm.

Canada is currently the 6th ranked womens rugby team in the world, while their competition, the United States is ranked 5th overall.

All teams had practice times slotted for this morning in Chatham and organizers were hard at work putting the finishing touches on the field behind Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

Some tickets are still available online at www.cktickets.com or by foot at the Chatham Cultural Centre box office. Local organizer Laverne Hanley, president of the Kent Havoc Rugby Football Club, said he expects tonights game between Canada and the USA to be very exciting,

“There is more than international rankings and participation in the Nations Cup tournament on the line,” said Hanley. “This game is for the CAN/AM bragging rights and pride in the maple leaf. I expect no less of these two teams than if it was a USA versus Canada hockey game.”
