This Week in CK Sports Ending August 6
It was another great week for sports in Chatham-Kent. In case you missed any of the action, from the TekSavvy Kent Cup International Rugby games, Chatham-Kent football players making appearances in NFL camps, to minor sports stars, “This Week in CK Sports” has the top five sports highlights from the week that was in Chatham-Kent sports.

- Starting with Team Canada’s arrival and pre-game practices in Chatham on Friday, the TekSavvy Kent Cup International Rugby matches were one of the areas biggest sporting events not only from the last week, but in the last year. In the games, England defeated South Africa, while Canada defeated the United States to capture the TekSavvy Kent Cup. Read more and see photos from TekSavvy Kent Cup Rugby here..
- Chatham’s Bridget Carleton was starring with Team Ontario at the Canadian Basketball Nationals. Carleton was one of the Team Ontario leaders in court time and was playing a key defensive role with the team, while chipping in several points per game. Team Ontario will face Quebec for a Canadian National Championship in the gold medal game Sunday. Read more about Bridget Carleton and Team Ontario here….
- Chatham-Kent pro football players Shaun Suisham and Andy Fantuz found their way into the training camps of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears this week. Suisham re-signed with the Steelers and will enter the season as the team’s starting kicker. Fantuz however, who impressed early, is now in a dog fight for a position with the Chicago Bears who are boasting a deep receiving crops. - The Chatham-Kent Cougars Bantam team played their way into the Ontario Football Conference championship game by defeating the Burlington Stampeders last weekend. - South Buxton Raceway debuted a new feature race welcoming an Ontario Dirt Late Models event to their lineup. As well, Blenheim’s Shawn Jones continued his 9 week winning streak solidifying his place among elite racers in Southwestern Ontario.
