Three Chatham-Kent Cougars to Receive Chris Bruce Award
Graham Smyth, Clark Green, and Lee Purnell, all members of the Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars football team, will be honoured August 6th following the Junior Varsity OFC Championship game in Hamilton.
Each player will receive the Chris Bruce Award for being named an Ontario Football Conference players of the week. Smyth took home Special Teams Player of the Week honours during week 1 of the OFC season. Week 1, the Cougars struggled out of the gate losing to the Twin Cities Predators 21-9.
Clark Green repeated Smyth’s win in week 6, also winning Special Team Player of the Week. Week 6 was a landslide victory for the Chatham-Kent Cougars 37-0 over the Hamilton Panthers.
In the final week of the season, Wallaceburg’s Lee Purnell grabbed Offensive Player of the Week honours, despite the Cougars again falling to the Twin Cities Predators 37-22. Purnell caught two touchdowns in the loss.
Chris Bruce’s sister, Kelly Williams will present the awards for outstanding performance.
The OFC Varsity final will be played following the ceremony August 6 between the Huronia Stallions and the Twin Cities Predators.
