Three Locals Going for Gold at Basketball National Championships

Team Ontario BasketballBridget Carleton, Janine Day, and Erica McFadden, each with their own ties to Chatham-Kent are going for gold today at the U15 and U17 National Womens Basketball Championships.

Carleton who plays for the U15 Team Ontario squad had 8 points and 4 rebounds for Ontario in their 65-53 semi-final win over British Columnia. Carleton, who stars for the Chatham-Kent Wildcats and will attend John McGregor Secondary School next year, will play for gold Saturday against Quebec.

In the U17 final, Erica McFadden, a former Chatham-Kent Secondary School star who moved this past school year, has been a leader for Team Ontario. In Ontario’s 73-42 semi-final win over Quebec, McFadden scored 7 points adding 3 steals and 3 assists. The U17 team is coached by current Wallaceburg District Secondary School coach and teacher Janine Day. Day is a veteran coach for Team Ontario previously capturing gold at the Womens National Championships.

The U17 squad will face British Columbia for gold tonight.
