Blenheim Blades Slice Through the Wallaceburg Lakers in Home Opener

Blenheim BladesFrom battling for last place, to instant North division favourites, the turn around has been rapid for the Blenheim Blades who are dressing a roster with 17 players with previous Junior C experience.

Sunday, the Blenheim Blades proved that their veteran lineup is ready to make waves in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League, as they defeated last seasons regular season champions, the Wallaceburg Lakers 7-0.

Last seasons leading scorer Thomas Innes opened the scoring for the Blades just over a minute into the game, before John McKillop added another for Blenheim before the end of the first period.

To start the second period, Tyler Clarke added to the Blenheim Blades lead on the powerplay following a Tyler Ryan roughing penalty. Blenheim’s scoring didn’t stop there with Ben Campbell and Neven Wiebenga scoring twice in two minutes later in the second period, opening up a 5-0 lead for the Blades.

Blenheim continued their barrage against Wallaceburg in the third period with Innes and Clarke each adding goals early in the frame. Wallaceburg was able to hold off Blenheim until the final buzzer, however, Dylan Vanderpol also shut the door stopping all 24 shots he faced for the shutout.

Wallaceburg now hosts the Blenheim Blades Wednesday at 7:30pm for their home opener while Blenheim will travel to Mooretown next Saturday.
