The 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver brought together the entire nation, however, it seems the source of the defining soundtrack that played throughout the Olympic Games, “I Believe,” is under question.

Chatham man, “Diamond” Pete Mason, of the band Myztery, claims that the Olympic version of “I Believe,” came directly from a song he composed, titled “Power of Love,” which was a new name given to the song, which was originally entitled “I Believe.”

Mason is suing Stephna Moccio, Alan Frew, CTV, and Universal Studies, claiming that Moccio and Frew used his original song to rework the quadruple platinum “I Believe,” which was performed for the Vancouver Olympic games by teenager Niki Yanofsky. The case will be heard at Federal Court in Toronto.

Canada captured 26 medals at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, including 14 gold, the most of any nation.

Amen to that, David. I listened to this guy’s original recording of his song on his website. As a musician and composer for thirty years I have to say this guy has no case.
