Chatham Maroons Still Winless After Loss to Strathroy

It was a scene all too familiar at Memorial Arena in Chatham as the final buzzer sounded with the Strathroy Rockets defeating the Chatham Maroons. Last season, it was the Strathroy Rockets who knocked the Maroons out of the Great Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs, and Sunday night, they continued the trend defeating the Maroons 5-2.

For Chatham, it marked their 3rd loss in as many games this season.

Strathroy got off to an early first period 3-0 lead and never looked back with goals from Chase Thornton, Kyle Walker and Greg Milner.

Trevor Richardson got the Maroons on the board late in the second period, assisted by Sam Studnicka and Marco Canzoneri. Then, only seconds into the third, Blake Blondeel closed the gap to 3-2. Sean Myers and Brett Berger picked up helpers on Blondeel’s goal.

Strathroy answered back however, with goals from Jacob Baribeau and Ryan Field which put the game out of reach.

Chatham now hosts the Lambton Shores Predators Thursday at 7pm at Memorial Arena. Lambton Shores opened their season with a 5-4 shootout win over Lasalle Saturday in Forest.
