Maroons Drop Home Opener to St. Thomas
After jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead, the Chatham Maroons dropped their home opener 6-3 to the St. Thomas Stars in front of a crowd of 434.
Alex Morgan, who had 2 goals in the Maroons’ first game of the season, a 3-2 loss in Lasalle, opened the scoring again for the Chatham Maroons with assists going to Sam Studnicka, who was recently assigned to Chatham from the Windsor Spitfires, and Trevor Richardson, a Chatham-Kent Cyclones player from last season.
Still in the first period, Marco Canzoneri put the Maroons up 2-0 with assists from Troy Cox and Blake Blondeel.
With only 4 minutes left in the first period however, the wheels fell off for the Chatham Maroons, as they allowed 3 goals in less than 4 minutes to close out the period, followed by 2 unanswered goals in the second period to sit down 5-2 heading into the third.
Trevor Richardson opened the scoring in the third period assisted by Eric Palazollo, but it was as close as the Maroons would get. Blenheim’s Brett Hope scored the final goal of the game for the St. Thomas Stars. Hope had a goal and 2 assists in the game.
Chatham now hosts three consecutive home games starting this Sunday against the Strathroy Rockets, followed by Thursday against Lambton Shores and the following Sunday against St. Thomas again.
