Milwaukee Brewers Preparing for Playoff Push Under Doug Melvin’s Guidance
It’s not often someone from Chatham-Kent finds themself in the middle of a race for a World Series title. With the Milwaukee Brewers sitting 8.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central Division in September, that’s exactly where Chatham’s Doug Melvin sits.
Melvin, who serves as the General Manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, has helped to build a team that is looking to make the postseason for the first time since 2008, when the Brewers grabbed the Wild Card position, and for only the second time in Melvin’s tenure which began in 2002.
Considering however, the Milwaukee Brewers have only made the postseason three times (1981, 1982, and 2008) since they joined Major League Baseball in 1970, Melvin’s time with the team will be considered a success.
Currently the Brewers sit with a 85-59 record, and were riding a winning streak heading into early September. With less than a month to go in the regular season, the only team who can ruin the Brewers’ post season hopes is the St. Louis Cardinals, as the next closest Central Division team, the Cincinnati Reds sit 14.5 games back. The Brewers are riding the hot bat of left fielder Ryan Braun who leads the National League in batting average. Braun was drafted in 2005, under the watch of Doug Melvin’s management.
