Blenheim Blast Swimmers Win in Alymer
The Blenheim Blast Swim Team travelled to the Ontario Police College in Aylmer last Sunday to kick off the first S.E.A.L. meet of the 2011/2012 season. The Aylmer pool is unique in that it s a 25 yard pool, and swimmers start the first meet of the year without the benefit of the use of starting blocks. Members of our team competed against 8 other teams from Southwestern Ontario
8 year old Emma Pegg swam to a first place finish in the girls 8 year old 25Y Breast (23.41 ) , second place in the 25Y Fly(20.69 ), third place in the 25Y Free (42.59 seconds) and fifth place in the 25Y Back with a time of 22.60 seconds. Grace Hansen swam to first place in the each of the girls 10 year old 50Y Fly (37.31) and 50Y Breast (44.90) . Grace also finished third in the 100Y Free (1:22.82) and fourth in the 50Y Back (42.94)
11 year old Ryan Scott had two top ten finishes in the 11 year old boys age category finishing fourth in the 50Y Back (54.73) and seventh in the 100Y Free (2:22.50) . Brendan Van Herk finished first in the boys 12 year old 100Y Back (1:10.65) . 12 year old Brendan also had two other top ten finishes competing in the boys 14 and over age category, swimming to seventh place in both the 14 and over 50Y Fly (32.37) and 100Y Free (1:03.85).
Rain Pfaff swam away with first place finishes in all of her events, securing first in the Girls 12 year old 50Y Fly (32.23 seconds), 100Y Back (1:11.63),100Y Breast (1:23.95) and 100Y Free (1:06.03). Natalie Robinson had three top ten finishes placing sixth in the girls 50Y Fly (43.83), and eighth in both the 100Y Back (1:42.97) and 100Y Breast (1:49.27). Hannah Clark also swam to three top ten finishes, placing seventh in the 12 year old 100Y Free (1:25.94), eighth in the 50Y Fly (44.74) and tenth in the 100Y Breast (1:54.90)
13 year old Alex Hall swam to four top finishes placing fifth in the girls 13 year old 100Y Free (1:12.22), sixth in the 50Y Fly (39.06) and seventh in both the 100Y Back (1:21.30) and 100Y Breast (1:34.25)
Shania Van Herk finished at the top of the podium for the Girls Open 200Y Free (2:12.12) and the 200Y IM (2.31.85) and placed second in the female 14 and over 100Y Breast(1:24.35). Catherine Thompson of the Blast secured first place in the girls 14 and over 100Y Breast with a time of 1:23.81. Catherine also had three other top ten finishes with sixth place finishes in the 100Y Free (1:10.78) and 50Y Fly (36.16) and a tenth place finish in the 100Y Back (1:26.47) 14 year old Mackenzie Rajki swam to first place finishes in the girls 14 and over 50Y Fly (33.72), 100Y Back (1:13.44) and 100Y Free (1:05.19) and finished fifth in the 100Y Breast (1:28.67) . Sophia Maclean finished eighth in the 100Y Back (1:23.01) and tenth in the 100Y Breast (1:16.57)
14 year old River Pfaff also had four finishes in the top ten, placing first in the boys 14 & over 100Y Breast (1:15.95), second in the 50 Fly (29.87), fourth in the 100Y Back (1:11.53) and fifth in the 100Y Free (1:02.94). 17 year old Eric Montgomery finished seventh in the boys 14 and over 100Y Breast (1:25.93), eighth in the 100Y Back (1:18.41) and tenth in the 100Y Free (1:06.53). 14 year old Michael Scott had three top ten finishes in this age category, finishing ninth in the 100Y Breast (1:33.13), and tenth in both the 50Y Fly (35.29) and 100 Back (1:32.42)
Other top ten finish performances to be celebrated include 10 year old Paige White in the 50Y Breast (50.85) , Delainey Johnson in the 11 Year old girls 50Y Back (44.28), Some of the team will travelling to Guelph this weekend to participate in the Halloween R.I.P. Relays . The next scheduled S.E.A.L. Meet will be Sunday November 13 at the Sherk Centre in Leamington.
