Chatham Maroons Win in Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness, See Photos

The Chatham Maroons put on a show for their home crowd at Memorial Arena Sunday night defeating the Lasalle Vipers 4-1, and hopefully getting a step closer to defeating breast cancer in the process.

Chatham donned in pink jerseys which were auctioned off throughout the game, powered past the Vipers on the heels of a two goal performance by Blake Blondeel, as well as the return of star Brennan Feasey. Feasey who was sent to Chatham this week after playing the first month of the season with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires scored in his return to Chatham.

The other Chatham Maroons goal went to captain Sean Myers, while Michael Verboom picked up 3-assists in the win. Hunter Johnson was spectacular in net for the Maroons stopping 38 of 39 shots he faced.

Although the scoreboard always matters in sports, the focus of the night came back to the pink jerseys and breast cancer awareness.

According to Chatham Pro Shop owner, and Chatham Maroons Trainer Darryl Lucio, who donated the pink jerseys, games like this are important to families and women in Chatham-Kent.

“Chatham Pro Shop decided to donate the pink jerseys to help fight breast cancer as it affects so many people out there,” said Lucio. “With many women developing breast cancer at some point in their life we need to find a cure and by donating the pink jerseys to be auctioned off, it’s an opportunity to help fight this terrible disease.”

With the Chatham-Kent Breast Buddies in attendance, a group of local breast cancer survivors, the Maroons certainly did their part to fight breast cancer, as well as to begin their climb up the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League standings.
