The Dresden Kings travelled to hostile territory Tuesday night playing the Essex 73s on the road. After clawing their way to multiple leads in the game, the Dresden Kings fell 5-4 to Essex in overtime.

Dresden jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Josh Beatty, assisted by Taylor Sisson. Macks Holmes followed up Beatty’s goal with a mid-period marker from Dylan Mertz and Alex Schmidt. Essex however answered back only 17 seconds later to make it 2-1.

Opening the second period, Alex Ritchie scored a powerplay goal for the Dresden Kings assisted by Cam Ross and Beatty, giving the Kings a two goal lead. The lead however, was put in jeopardy two minutes later as Dylan Solecki scored his second goal of the game for Essex. Alex Schmidt added another for the Kings before the period was out, sending Dresden into the third period holding a 4-2 lead.

The third period opened with a different tone as the Essex 73s proved why they are annually one of the league’s elite teams scoring twice to tie the score 4-4. With a knotted score after regulation, the game headed to overtime.

Essex completed the comeback in overtime as Kevin Boggs scored the game winning goal for the 73s 1:25 into the extra frame.

Dresden now welcomes the Mooretown Flags to town Friday night at 7:30pm.
