Hensel Named Ontario Senior Games President
A Chatham-Kent resident, Peter Hensel, was named President of the Ontario Senior Games Association at their Annual Meeting in Toronto on Monday. Another Chatham-Kent resident, Sharon Benishek, was also named to the OSGA Board for a two year term. There are two members, Mary Brown and Stephanie Atkinson, from Eastern Ontario, Denis Ringuette, from Northern Ontario, Angline Richard and Peter O’Connor from Central Ontario, and Gail Prior, Yvonne Day, Bruce Symons and Tony Meriano from the South-Western Region of Ontario.
Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA) 55+ Games are geared to adults over the age of 55. These games have been designed to attract amateur athletes to help to promote healthy lifestyle. District 55+ Games occur annually in the 41 Districts across Ontario
OSGA 55+ Summer Games include 5 pin bowling, carpet bowling, lawn bowling, cycling, golf, pickleball, slo-pitch, floor shuffleboard, euchre, bid euchre, swimming, contract bridge, tennis, darts, Nordic and prediction walking, bocce, cribbage and horseshoes. The OSGA 55+ Winter Games include alpine skiing, badminton, curling, duplicate bridge, hockey, Nordic skiing, table tennis, prediction and speed skating and 10 pin bowling.
Winners from District Games have the opportunity to advance to the 55+ Summer Games in even numbered years and to the 55+ Winter Games which are held in odd numbered years. 55+ Summer Regional Games are held on the odd numbered years as well. Chatham-Kent hosted Regional Games in 2009 and 2011. The next 55+ Summer Games will be held in Brampton in August 2012 and the next 55+ Winter Games will be held in Huntsville.
