How to Find Skates That Fit
When purchasing a new pair of skates, here are a few tips to ensure that you are getting an optimal fit.
First of all, be sure to bring along the socks that you intend to wear during hockey. Your hockey skate should fit tighter than a regular shoe, so you might find that your skate size is a size smaller that your usual shoe size.
When you slide the skate on, tap your heel on the floor a few times to ensure that your heel is in the back of the boot. Lace the skate tight and stand up. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, crouch down by bending your knees, so that your knee is slightly over your toe and you are in a skating stance. Your foot should shift slightly inside the skate.
If your toes are then crunched, the skate is too small, and if there is plenty of room for your toes to move forward, then the boot is too big.
