SWOSSAA Tennis Coming to Chatham-Kent Tuesday

This is the sixth season for tennis as an official activity in Chatham-Kent and the first time that Kent will act as the SWOSSAA host. SWOSSAA tennis will take place Tuesday, October, 18.

Improvements at both facilities, Joe Carpenter and Doug Allin tennis courts (JMSS and Tecumseh), by the Municipality have enabled Chatham to host this year’s SWOSSAA tennis.

There are two divisions of play: the high school division and the open division (players who compete during the summer in three-star OTA tournaments).

Eight players/teams will compete in each of the five high school divisions: Boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles, and mixed doubeles.

Play begins on Tuesday at 9 am.

The John McGregor Panthers are defending SWOSSAA team champions. They also won in 2007. CKSS won in 2008 and 2009 while Windsor Holy Names won in 2005.

Kent County sends two representatives to the high school division, while Lambton County sends two and Windsor-Essex sends four.

The top two finishers at SWOSSAA advance to OFSAA which is in the spring.

Kent County had good results at SWOSSAA last season, winning three of the five divisions: Graciela and Grecia Alaniz (CKSS) won girls doubles, Alex Goldoni (JMSS) won boys’ singles, while Alaysha Pereira (JMSS) was the girls’ singles champion. Kent County also had two seconds: Brandon Dube (UCC) boys’ singles and Dylan McTavish and Michael Woods (JMSS) in boys’ doubles.
