Chatham Ballhawks Win Gold at Local Tournament

The Chatham Ballhawks 16U team competed in a 17U tournament this weekend held at Chatham-Kent Secondary School. The Ballhawks finished first in their pool and eventually won the gold medal as tournament champions.

Pool Play results:
vs FC Blue 16U (London) 25-13, 25-21
vs Twin Bridges (Sarnia) 25-13, 25-21

Quarters vs FC Blue 16U (London) 25-23, 25-22
Semis vs Stingers (Stratford) 25-17, 25-21
Finals vs FC Green 16U (London) 33-31,16-25, 15-11

The Ballhawks were led by the incredible serving of Alyssa Chacon and the great hitting and blocking of the middles Julia Meidlinger and Laura Wiersma.

After a day where the team only had the lead once at the beginning of one game, the U16 Ballhawks showed amazing character and fought their way back in every set in order to be successful.

This was the first time in four years that this team has won a gold medal at any level and the first time they had beaten FC Green 16U after numerous attempts.
