Chatham-Kent Cyclones Focusing on Player Development

After a busy summer of re-working the organization, it’s clear that the Chatham-Kent Cyclones are attempting to turn a new page in player development, and begin competing with the bigger centers in Ontario.

In order to do this, the Cyclones have secured the assistance of NHL and OHL coaches to run skill development camps for players.

London Knights goaltending coach Bill Dark will be running goalie training sessions throughout the season. Power skating sessions, will be run this season by current Toronto Maple Leafs power skating instructer Graeme Townshend. Townshend played 10 years of professional hockey, including for 3 different National Hockey League teams, before later becoming the Player Development Coordinator for the San Jose Sharks, before being hired by the Maple Leafs in 2008.

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones will also be holding stick handling and shooting development days run by current Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning skills coach Tim Turk.

Last season, the Chatham-Kent Cyclones found themselves at or near the bottom of the standings in almost every age group, a trend the new executive is hoping to erase as they work to improve the calibre and development curve of local hockey players.
