CK Cougars Crown Fall Football Champions

The Chatham-Kent Cougars fall football league wrapped up last week with the Enviro-Clean Car & Dog Wash team winning the peewee division while the Erieau Marina squad captured the Bantam crown.

QB Adam Pearson scored once in each half for Enviro-Clean Car & Dog Wash in a tough 12-0 victory over Bedell’s Food Services. Pearson scrambled 30 yards around the left end on a quarterback bootleg early in the second quarter for Enviro-Clean Car & Dog Wash. Bedell’s Food Services took the ball on the ensuing possession and drove the ball the length of the field. DE Trey Postma halted the drive with a sack causing a fumble on the 10 yard line that was recovered by DT Daniel Brazil. Pearson scored in the third quarter on a 2 yard quarterback sneak giving Enviro-Clean Car & Dog Wash the 12-0 lead. Defensive standouts for Bedell’s Food Services were Jonathan Cartier, Cody Lunn, Neetahwis Shognosh-Diaz, Reece Dewagner and Marquez Stonefish. Enviro-Clean Car & Dog Wash got mad dog defensive performances from Ethan Lutz with an interception, Lucas Doyle, Chase Topic, Donovan Handsor and Alex Gleeson.

Erieau Marina outlasted RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty 30-27 in an ACHOM Shriner Bantam Championship game that saw the lead change seven times. This was one for the ages…a fabulously played game where the players displayed all of their skill, discipline and passion for the game of football in front of 200 screaming fans. RB Tanner Shuian scored on a 70 yard touchdown run around the right end on the first play from scrimmage and K Owen Dorssers kicked the convert for Erieau Marina. RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty recovered with a 65 yard touchdown pass from QB Kelton Evans to a streaking WR Trevor Jewell and then RB Jake Anderson scored on a 65 yard run around the right end. Evans scrambled and found Anderson in the end zone for the convert and a 13-8 lead. Shuian then scored on a 3 yard dive up the middle capping off a long drive for Erieau Marina. Dorssers kicked another convert and Erieau Marina led 16-13. RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty quickly answered with Evans hooking up with Jewell again for a long touchdown pass to take a 19-16 lead. The Erieau Marina offense continued to move the ball well and Shuian ran into the end zone from 15 yards out. Dorssers kicked his third convert of the game to give Erieau Marina a 24-19 lead. RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty again used inventive play calling to gain the lead with Anderson throwing a 65 yard half back option to Jewell for a touchdown. K Christian Moccia kicked a key convert giving RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty a 27-24 lead late in the fourth quarter. Erieau Marina responded by systematically moving the ball down the field using a balanced ground attack and with 1:05 left in the game Shuian reached the end zone on a 15 yard run around the right side of the offensive line to make the score 30-27. RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty moved the ball down to the Erieau Marina 5 yard line with under 15 seconds left and Bradley Wild made a big defensive stop for an 11 yard loss on the second last play of the game to preserve the win for Erieau Marina.

Defensive standouts in the game for Erieau Marina were Austin Miller with a blocked punt and leading tacklers Dylan Foster, Alex Formosa and Wild. Defensive standouts for RE/MAX Chatham-Kent Realty were Clayton Shreve with a fumble recovery and leading tacklers Erik Dube-Shaw, Spencer Neill, David Nethersole, Dawson Russell and Anderson. The offensive lines for both teams were phenomenal opening up holes and playing nearly penalty free football.
