Hall of Fame Coach and Builder Dan Lewis Passes Away
Remembered as a family man and a talented coach, Dan Lewis passed away Tuesday afternoon after his fight with brain cancer at age 58.
Lewis is survived by five children and three grandchildren.
In the Chatham-Kent sporting community, Lewis was a well respected and winning coach, who leaves behind a legacy of development, mentorship, and championships. Lewis was honoured in 2010 when he was inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder category.
In his more than three decade coaching career, Lewis won five OFSAA basketball championships. He coached at Chatham-Kent (OFSAA Gold in 1991 and 1992), John McGregor (OFSAA Gold in 2000 and 2001), Ridgetown (OFSAA Gold in 1997), and Blenheim high school’s, where he also taught.
Lewis is also a Hall of Famer, in the amateur athlete division, in the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame.
Lewis will be remembered as a family man, a great coach, athlete, leader, and mentor to youth, coaches, athletes, and teachers across Chatham-Kent and Ontario.
Visitation for Dan Lewis will be Thursday 7-9 pm, and Friday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Alexander & Houle Funeral Home.
