Peewee B Kent Fillies Bring Home Gold From Kitchener
The Kent County Fillies Peewee B hockey team took home gold this past weekend at the Kitchener Lady Rangers Fallfest Tournament with a 4-1 record.
The Kent Fillies opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over the Norfolk Hurricanes. Alli Oliphant opened the scoring for the Fillies while Mckenna Massender had the game winning goal.
In their second game of the tournament, the Fillies suffered their only loss of the weekend to the hometown Kitchener Lady Rangers. After falling behind 2-0, Lauren Edwards narrowed the lead assisted by Oliphant and Massender, but it wasn’t enough. Randi Renee Spotton scored the other Kent County goal.
Kent County dominated their third game of the weekend shutting out the Mississauga Chiefs. Alyssa Coutts scored in the first period to get the ball rolling, however the game remained close until the third period when the Fillies broke the flood gates open scoring three goals to win 4-0. Other Kent Fillies goals in the game came from McKenzie Cleland, Edwards, and Regan Shephard. Edwards also picked up two assists in the game.
Playing a tough Wilmot team in the Sunday playoffs, Kent County kept the game close after falling behind in the first, before Alyssa Coutts and Megan Hakr scored in the second and third to give the Peewee Fillies a 2-1 win.
Playing Markham in the final, the Kent Fillies put on a defensive show shutting out Markham 1-0 to win the Lady Rangers Fallfest Championship. On a pass from Megan Hakr, Lauren Edwards continued her strong weekend scoring midway through the third period to break the 0-0 tie and lift her team to victory.
You should write about the fillies more often.
I’ll see what we can do. Those Fillies just need to keep winning 🙂
Ian, I used to babysit you, so did my sisters. I grew up as your neighbour too, however, you were just a baby when I babysat you; you are a lot younger than me!!!!! My youngest daughter is on the fillies team, that’s her in the front row; she is the goalie.
