Stephen Malott Honoured for No-Hitter by OASA
Ridgetown’s Stephen Malott was honoured this past weekend in Markham, at the 89th general meeting of the Ontario Amateur Softball Association, for a no-hitter he threw this summer as a member of the Highgate Rock softball team.
Malott was recognized and presented with a no-hitter award, which was handed out to only a handfull of athletes from across Ontario. Out of the 111 teams registered in 2011 with the OASA and all the games these teams played, there were only 5 regular season, no-hitter games. Two games were with Junior Men’s teams, one with a Midget team, and two at the Bantam level, one being a game pitched by Malott with the Highgate Rock.
To share in the award, Malott invited his catcher, Kurtis Gosnell, who caught every ball that Malott threw this year, including during the no-hitter game, to the ceremony to be recognized as well.
Following his strong season in Highgate, in which he lead his team to a provincial championship, Malott was selected to play with the Kitchener-Waterloo Kolts at the Eastern Canadian Softball Championships in Newfoundland.
