TJ Brodie Recalled by the Calgary Flames

After being absent from the NHL for over a year, Dresden’s TJ Brodie is about to get another taste of hockey’s top league Friday as the Calgary Flames travel to Chicago to face the Blackhawks.

This season as a member of the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, Brodie has registered one goal and two assists in 12 games. With Calgary Flames defenseman Anton Babchuk on the injured reserve list with a broken hand, Brodie has the opportunity to play a number of games, and perhaps challenge for a longer stay.

Brodie made the Calgary Flames last season following a spectacular preseason, however he lasted only 3 games with the big club before being reassigned to Abbotsford for the remainder of the season. Brodie later suffered a season ending high ankle sprain which also delayed his offseason training regiment.

Brodie’s biggest improvement this season has been his defensive play, something that hindered his promotion to the NHL. Last season, Brodie was -3 with the Flames, however this season, Brodie is already +4 with the Abbotsford Heat.
